2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: THE SITE AND ITS MANAGEMENT

National monument, Architectural ensemble of the Old Soko Mosque, Gracanica, represents monument of an outstanding national value. Beside that it presents the oldest mosque of that area, it also presents the building that was built at the first half of 15th century, as a medieval feudal manor.

After the Soko grad (Soko fort) and wider area felt under Ottoman rule, probably in 1520, the Ottomans used this building and convert it to the mosque.

The mosque remained in use until 1980 when a new mosque was built in Soko.

Beside the preserving monument of national importance, main idea of this project is to initiate sustainable development of region through development of cultural tourism and return of refugees/displaced persons to the territory of their pre-war 1992-1995 residence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Also it will present the support of preservation and restoration of all other cultural and historical monuments in the area, and to become a part of viable development programs and strategies of the whole region.
