PUBLIC INVITATION
FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMMME
“VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE IN STONE”

Commission to Preserve National Monuments issues a Public invitation for participation in the Summer school programme on vernacular architecture in stone, which shall take place in Stolac (Bosnia and Herzegovina), in the period from 21st to 30th July 2015.

Organization of the aforementioned school is a part of the project “Extension of Potentiality of Adriatic UNESCO Sites” (EX.PO AUS) co-financed by the European Union within the IPA Adriatic Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. Twelve partners from seven states in the Adriatic area have been included in the programme (BiH, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece). In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Project is being implemented by the Commission to Preserve National Monuments. General aim of the Project is to establish a collaboration network of sites included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in the Adriatic region (including also sites from the Tentative list), which shall develop and exchange technical and managerial skills by involving public and private sector across the borders. Project EX.PO AUS in Bosnia and Herzegovina was primarily directed toward raising awareness of significance and values of vernacular architecture (folk architecture ), with a particular emphasis on mills.

Objectives of the summer school are improvement of ways of performing conservation works, explanation of characteristics of materials to participants along with introduction to factors leading to their degradation, promotion of contemporary protection methods and their application, training participants for independent work on conservation and restoration of architectural heritage throughout a practical work at School’s workshops, preservation of traditional construction technics.

The School on vernacular heritage will be held in English and it is of international character. Number of participants is limited to thirty.

The right to participate is given to students of archaeology, history, architecture, civil construction, art history and other disciplines directly related to cultural heritage, as well as to young experts employed or engaged in institutions for the protection of cultural heritage, legal person certified for conservation and restoration works on architectural heritage or associations of citizens (non-governmental organizations) established to promote the protection of cultural heritage.

The application should contain:
- Data on participant: first and last name, date of birth, educational institution the candidate is coming from (for students), name of the institution, associations of citizens or legal entity the candidate is coming from (for young experts), and also a contact phone.
- Short motivation letter

Deadline for submission of applications: 6 July 2015. Applications submitted after the deadline shall not be taken into consideration.

Remark: costs of travel, food and accommodation for participants, as well as costs of participation, shall be borne by the organizer.
