Campaign to preserve Cultural Heritage at Risk - Donor’s meeting

Mach 17 2005, Sarajevo

 

As a part of Campaign to preserve Cultural Heritage at Risk on Mach 17, 2005 in the Parliament building the Donor’s meeting in organization of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments and the Royal Norwegian Embassy was held.

The meeting was opened by Ambassador of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in BiH Henrik Ofstad, Ambassador Werner Wnendt, Senior Deputy of High Representative in BiH and Amra Hadžimuhamedović, Chairperson of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments.

            The meeting was attended by 36 representatives of embassies, foreign and Bosnian organization. 

            Representatives of the Commission have presented projects in the three thematic sectors, which are priorities of the Commission:

1.       Capacity building in the field of cultural heritage protection:

i     Library and documentation centre of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments

ii         Annual of the Commission to Preserve National Monuments

iii        Formation of a DIGITAL REGISTER of the cultural and historical HERITAGE of Bosnia and Herzegovina - DIGITAL REGISTER OF THE BIH HERITAGE

2.       Emergent activities on preservation of Cultural Heritage at Risk (37 the most endangered monuments in Bosnia and Herzegovina) through rising awareness of citizens as well as interest of donors and investors by Campaign: Cultural Memory – a Vanishing Treasury. For all monuments at the List of the most Endangered Commission has preliminary technical assessment and basic technical documentation:

i      Support for the campaign for the protection of endangered monuments

ii         Historical monument Mehmed-paša Sokolović Bridge in Višegrad

iii        Collection of icons of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Madonna in Livno

iv        The burial ground complex of the Jewish Cemetery in Sarajevo

vBlagaj – drafting technical documentation for the historic centre of Blagaj

vi        Reconstruction of the Aladža Mosque in Foča - I phase: preservation of fragments - excavation, selection, recording, inventorying and conserving the fragments

vii       Protection from further deterioration of the remnants of the architectural ensemble of the Mosque and Medresa of Mehmed-paša Kukavica in Foča

viii     Program of protection of the Bridge: “Most na Plandištu”

3.       Integration of cultural heritage into development plans - especially development of cultural tourism (Commission has prepared several project proposals)

i      Plan for the integration of the cultural, historical and natural heritage into the Stolac development plan – tourism aspects

ii         Blidinje – promotion and development of nature part and tourist routes using the cultural and historical heritage

iii        Implementation of decisions of the commission – Notice boards for national monuments

           

            Donors have presented their strategies related to the integration of the cultural heritage in the sustainable development of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
